Inspired by his isolation, psychoses, and an obsessive relationship with his mother, Gein committed crimes that left a lasting mark on American culture and the horror genre.
His crimes – including the murder of two women, grave robbing, and creating macabre trophies from human remains – made him the inspiration for iconic horror figures in films such as Psycho, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and The Silence of the Lambs. This notoriety earned Gein the infamous titles of 'Butcher of Plainfield' or 'Plainfield Ghoul' and made him a blueprint for modern horror.
The cast features Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy) alongside Laurie Metcalf as Augusta, Gein's mother, Tom Hollander as Alfred Hitchcock, and Olivia Williams as his wife Alma Reville.
Additionally, Addison Rae stars as Evelyn Hartley, Charlie Hall as Deputy Frank Worden, and Suzanna Son in an as-yet-unknown role. The series also includes Lesley Manville, Joey Pollari, Tyler Jacob Moore, Mimi Kennedy, Will Brill, and Robin Weigert.
Monster: The Ed Gein Story is part of the Monster anthology. The first season focused on Jeffrey Dahmer, the second season on brothers Erik and Lyle Menendez, and the third season centers on Ed Gein.
For the fourth season, the focus shifts to Lizzie Borden, who stood trial in 1892 and was acquitted of the notorious axe murder of her father and stepmother. This role is played by Ella Beatty, alongside Rebecca Hall and Vicky Krieps.
Monster: The Ed Gein Story will be released on Netflix on Thursday, October 3. Below are the two posters released by Netflix.
