The Finnish documentary Most Wanted: Teen Hacker on HBO Max tells the story of Aleksanteri Kivimäki, a teenager who became one of Europe's most notorious hackers. It sounds like the perfect material for a thrilling, in-depth series, but Most Wanted doesn't quite tap into that potential.

The series follows Kivimäki himself, who speaks about his actions without apparent guilt: hacking thousands of therapy records, digital extortion, even bomb threats. His cold demeanor is impressive, but the documentary too often remains passive. Little probing is done, and real context is lacking. What drives someone to go to such extremes? What does the damage look like for his victims? These questions are largely left unanswered.

Visually, it's solidly made and the tension is well-built, but the content feels thin. The creators sometimes seem more fascinated by Kivimäki's bravado than critical of his behavior. As a result, the series lacks moral edge; it remains more of a suspenseful story than a genuine analysis of the digital dark side of our time.

Most Wanted: Teen Hacker is interesting, but too superficial. What could have developed into a profound portrait of online power and responsibility remains stuck in a narrative that primarily aims to entertain.
