Amazon Announces Cast of Cruel Intentions Series Adaptation

Amazon has secured the permanent cast for Cruel Intentions, the series adaptation of the 1999 cult film.
Sarah Catherine Hook (First Kill), Zac Burgess (Totally Completely Fine) and Myra Molloy (Halfworlds) star, along with Khobe Clarke (Yellowjackets), Brooke Lena Johnson (You), Sara Silva (The Boys) and John Harlan Kim (The Last Thing He Told Me). Sean Patrick Thomas, who played in the Cruel Intentions movie, also participates in the series.

Set in Washington D.C., the series adaptation comes from writers Phoebe Fisher and Sara Goodman, Sony Pictures Television, Amazon Studios and Original Film. The series is expected to air on Prime Video.

In this new incarnation of the premise, rooted in the novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses by Choderlos de Laclos, two ruthless step-siblings do everything they can to stay on top. In this case, the hierarchy of Greek life at an elite school in Washington, D.C. Hook (pictured) plays Caroline Merteuil, the queen of everything - or at least the queen of Delta Phi. Burgess is Lucien, Caroline's stepbrother. Molloy plays Annie, a model student and respectable young woman who is also the daughter of the Vice President of the United States. Silva plays Cece, Caroline's right-hand man at Delta Phi. Kim plays Blaise, a senior member of Alpha Gamma who knows everything about everyone and likes to use that knowledge to his advantage. Clarke plays Scott, the son of a congressman and a new recruit to Alpha Gamma. Johnson plays Beatrice, a reporter for the school newspaper and leader of the anti-Greek movement at the university. Thomas plays Professor Chadwick.

Laura Benanti (Gossip Girl (2021)) plays Claudia and Jon Tenney (The Closer) plays Congressman Russell in a recurring role.

Amazon declined to comment.

Fisher is writing the pilot under Goodman's supervision. The duo will co-write the series.

The 1999 film, written and directed by Roger Kumble, starred Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, Reese Witherspoon, and Selma Blair. The film is a modern retelling of Pierre Choderlos de Laclos' 1782 novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses and is set in New York City among wealthy high school students. The film was followed by a prequel in 2000, a sequel in 2004, and a jukebox musical in 2015.

Original Film's Neal H. Moritz, who produced the 1999 film, serves as an executive producer along with the company's Pavun Shetty. Andrea Iervolino and Monica Bacardi of Iervolino & Lady Bacardi Entertainment and Bruce Mellon are also responsible for production.
