In the six-episode series, Thompson plays news anchor Anna Andrews, a woman who, according to the series synopsis, lives in ghostly seclusion in the sweltering heat of Atlanta, withering away from her friends and career as a journalist. But when she hears about a murder in Dahlonega, Georgia - the sleepy town where she grew up - Anna comes back to life, throws herself into the case and searches for answers.
Bernthal will play Jack Harper, the Sheriff's Office detective who is married to Anna, but the two are estranged, their relationship complicated by loss and betrayal. Jack has lost his last job and now works in his small hometown of Dahlonega, where he lives with his sister and niece. Jack is described as a good man who doesn't always make good decisions and is deeply disturbed by the murder case he has just busted.
And Schreiber will play Richard, one of the top cameramen at the local news station who is married to attractive new anchor Lexy Jones, who has secured her position during the recent absence of regular Anna. Richard is chosen by Anna to be her cameraman when she returns as a reporter to tackle the story of a murder in Dahlonega.
The synopsis says that Jack is strangely suspicious of Anna's involvement, "hunting her into the crosshairs of his own investigation" and noting, "There are two sides to every story: his and hers, which means someone is always lying. "
Filmmaker William Oldroyd's series is based on the novel of the same name by Alice Feeney and went into production this fall. A premiere date has yet to be announced.
Bernthal just won the trophy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series at the 2024 Creative Arts Emmys for his role as Mikey Berzatto in FX's The Bear. In addition to his role in The Bear, which is returning for a fourth season, his recent notable television roles include American Gigolo and We Own This City, following his starring roles in Marvel's The Punisher and AMC's The Walking Dead. He will reprise his role as The Punisher in Marvel's upcoming Daredevil: Born Again for Disney+.
Shreiber, who broke out in American Gods and Orange Is the New Black, has since starred in the limited series Defending Jacob, The Brink and Candy, and most recently in the two-season Halo adaptation for Paramount+. His next television role will be the lead in the limited series The Savant for Apple TV+.
