Jeremy Allen White to star in Netflix's bisexual romantic drama

The Bear star Jeremy Allen White is joining Netflix as lead actor and executive producer of Enigma Variations. Enigma Variations is a serial adaptation of André Aciman's novel, which is in the early stages of development, sources have learned.



According to the official synopsis, "Enigma Variations charts the life of a man named Paul (White, pictured), whose loves remain as consuming and desiring in his adulthood as they were in his adolescence. Whether the setting is southern Italy , where he is a boy in love with his parents' furniture maker, or a snowy New England campus, where his enduring passion for a girl he will meet again and again over the years is interrupted by anonymous encounters with men - whether he stands on a tennis court in Central Park or on a New York sidewalk in early spring.

Paul's attachments are elusive, fleeting, and forever based on raw desire. For every step Paul takes, his hopes, denials, fears, and regrets are always ready to lay their snares. Yet the dream of love lingers. We may not always know what we want. We may remain riddles to ourselves and to others. But sooner or later we discover who we always knew we were.”

Acimon previously wrote the novel Call Me By Your Name, which was adapted into the Oscar-nominated film starring Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer.

White has won two Emmys and three Golden Globes for his starring role as Carmy in FX's The Bear.
