Oscar, BAFTA and Tony Award winner Catherine Zeta-Jones has landed her next high-profile television project. Zeta-Jones stars in and produces Kill Jackie [working title], an adaptation of Aidan Truhen's 'gonzo thriller' The Price You Pay in which the protagonist Jack has transitioned from male to female for the television version.
Kill Jackie, which starts filming next month, stars Zeta-Jones (pictured) as Jackie Price, who has led a wealthy and luxurious life for the past two decades - traveling the world, selling art through sophisticated tax dodges and, above all, trying to remain anonymous after escaping a dangerous past as an international cocaine dealer. But just when life starts to get a little boring, things take a sudden deadly turn when she discovers that The Seven Demons, a group of the world's most terrifying assassins, have been hired to kill her.
Filming will take place in Bilbao, Lisbon, London and Swansea.
Kill Jackie was written by Gangs of London writer Tom Butterworth and Conor Keane and is directed by Damon Thomas, whose credits include Killing Eve.
Truhen's novel, published in 2018, was written under the pseudonym of author Nick Harkaway. It took several years for Harkaway to reveal himself as the man behind the pseudonym Aidan Truhen, which is an anagram of Diana Hunter, a character from another of Harkaway's novels. Butterworth called the book a 'gonzo thriller'. "Our ambition is to twist and expand his world into something equally funny, dark, twisted and unique. Or die trying," he added.
The role is the latest high-profile television project for Zeta-Jones, who won an Oscar for the 2002 movie musical Chicago. She recently starred in Disney+'s National Treasure: Edge of History and plays Wednesday Adams' mother in the Netflix hit of the same name. She hasn't starred in a movie in almost a decade, but will star in Cathy Yan's upcoming thriller The Gallerist.
Zeta-Jones said: “I’m thrilled to be a part of Kill Jackie (w/t) both behind and in front of the camera. The opportunity to bring this multifaceted character to life, and explore a female driven plot that encompasses empowerment, identity, and redemption is something I’m looking forward to.”
