The classic sitcom (sometimes with laugh track) has disappeared a bit, but many beautiful things have taken its place. From hard-hitting crude action comedy to light-hearted drama to more philosophical humor. Everything comes along, so there is something to choose from.
Below, in alphabetical order, the top ten nominees of the best comedy/dramedy series from 2024
A Man on the Inside

What is it like to live in a retirement home? Depressing? Rotting away? Waiting until the end? A Man on the Inside proves the opposite. This heart-warming series shows a cheerful and colorful image of older people. And sometimes they are just like young people, but hard of hearing and with slightly weaker knees.

All Creatures Great and Small (2020)

For five seasons we have been able to dream away about the Yorkshire countryside where apparently nothing happens. In this series about veterinarian James Herriot, the stakes are very low, except for a sick goat, an escaped cat or an injured horse. Although the Second World War hangs over the series like a dark cloud, everything remains light-hearted. All Creatures Great and Small (2020) is relaxation at a high level.

Emily in Paris

If you are looking for a series that you can put on in the background while you fold the laundry or do something else, look no further! Emily in Paris is unbelievable, full of clichés and sometimes makes no sense at all. And that's what makes it so attractive. An ideal series to clear your head that is also relatively easy to watch.

Fallout

You'll like this if game adaptations are your thing. After The Last of Us, Fallout is the next big game that has an equally big series. Where The Last of Us is mainly very pale and serious, Fallout is wonderfully colorful, absurd and humorous. Add starring roles from Ella Purnell and Walton Goggins, among others, and you have a worthy candidate in this category.

Hacks

Jean Smart has been an established name in the television world for years. In Hacks she plays a similar role as a legendary comedienne, who is forced to collaborate with a young writer. What follows is a lot of humor and a special bond between the two. The series has now been running for three seasons and many television awards and there seems to be no stopping it. On to season four!

Kaos

Who do you cast to play an arrogant modern-day version of the Greek supreme god Zeus? Of course, that could be none other than Jeff Goldblum. Kaos is a sarcastic and modern retelling of Greek mythology that pokes fun at the well-known stories about gods. Unfortunately, this is also the only year in which Kaos can be nominated in this category, because Netflix has decided that it will stick to one season.

Only Murders in the Building

The best podcast makers and amateur detectives are back to solve the fourth murder mystery in their apartment building. This time, the death of stuntwoman Sazz brings the trio to Hollywood, where the entire process of making films, writing scripts and acting is completely overhauled. The comedic talent of Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez helps a lot with this. Season five has also been announced, so we can enjoy this series for a while.

The Bear

Is this a comedy? Opinions are divided on this. Wouldn't this be more of a drama series with a touch of witty humor? The restaurant's experiences in Chicago balance on the edge between the two genres and it has been doing so with verve for a few years. Season three of The Bear also scores high again, and expectations for season four are high.

The Gentlemen

While some series in this list are pure relaxation, this is not the case with The Gentlemen. The adrenaline flows from the screen. This action series by Guy Ritchie is a spin-off of the film of the same name. And just like in the film, brutal violence and equally crude humor alternate at top speed. It is therefore not surprising that season two is now in the making.

What We Do in the Shadows

Staten Island's cutest vampires have been turning the city upside down for six seasons. They deal with hostile vampire clans, nosy neighbors, occult experiments and whose turn it is to take out the trash. What We Do in the Shadows has been combining the vampire genre with roommate comedies for years and does so with verve.
