Ning is also currently developing a television series adaptation of "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" and the other four novels in Wang DuLu's "Crane Iron Pentalogy" published between 1938 and 1944, which depicts the struggle of four generations of youxia, a type of the ancient Chinese warrior folk hero narrates.
"Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" was adapted by Ang Lee into his Oscar-winning film, incorporating elements from other books in the Crane series. The film was produced and distributed by Sony, making the title a lucrative property in the studio's library.
Sony recently got back the rights to the property through the first-look deal it had with Vertigo. Roy Lee and Miri Yoon of Vertigo and Johnny Levin are attached as executive producers on the potential "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" series alongside Ning.
Former Lucifer executive producer Ning recently worked on two high-profile upcoming series, Peacock's Mrs. Davis by Damon Lindelof, and Netflix's "The Brother's Sun" by Brad Falchuk. He was also a supervising producer for The Expanse.
