Netflix has put Dead Letters, a drama starring and executive produced by Lucy Hale, into development. The project, which took place in a highly competitive environment with several major bidders, is an adaptation of Caite Dolan-Leach's 2017 novel and comes from Alex Cooper's Unwell Productions and Aaron Kaplan's Kapital Entertainment.
Dead Letters is written/executive produced by Rachel Caris Love and is directed/executive produced by Liz Friedlander (Shining Vale). The series is described as an addictive mystery psychological thriller centered around a pair of identical twin sisters, Ava and Zelda, played by Hale (pictured).
When Ava returns to the family vineyard in the wake of Zelda’s sudden death, she must figure out who murdered her beloved twin sister while reckoning with dangerous revelations about the woman Zelda had become in her absence. To complicate matters, Zelda knew she was in grave danger, so she left letters for Ava. Zelda’s cryptic and heartbreaking “dead letters” send Ava on a twisted quest for the truth—and force Ava to question everyone she’s ever loved.
Dead Letters would mark Hale's return to television, where she previously appeared in The CW's Pretty Little Liars and The CW's Katy Keene and AMC+'s Ragdoll in addition to reprising her Wizards of Waverly Place role with a cameo in the sequel, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.
