Prime Video greenlights a series based on the video game Life is Strange

Prime Video is adding another game adaptation to its lineup with the order of Life is Strange.
Life is Strange is based on the acclaimed 2015 video game of the same name. The series is being developed in collaboration with Square Enix, Story Kitchen, LuckyChap, and creator Charlie Covell, known for The End of the F***ing World and Kaos. The production is in the hands of Amazon MGM Studios.

Just like in the game, the story revolves around Max, a photography student who discovers she can rewind time when she saves her childhood friend Chloe's life. As Max tries to understand her new ability, the two investigate the mysterious disappearance of a fellow student. Their search exposes the dark sides of their town and leads to an impossible life-changing decision that will mark them forever.

Showrunner Charlie Covell emphasized how special it is to bring this world to television: she calls herself a big fan of the game and looks forward to sharing Max and Chloe's story with both existing players and new viewers.

The announcement comes shortly after the news that Prime Video will begin production of the Tomb Raider series by Phoebe Waller-Bridge in January, starring Sophie Turner, with Story Kitchen also involved.

According to Dimitri M. Johnson and Mike Goldberg of Story Kitchen, Life is Strange has always been more than a game: it is a cultural touchstone that is finally coming to life as a series after a ten-year journey. Square Enix studio heads Jon Brooke and Lee Singleton also expressed that there has been demand for a television adaptation for years, and they are pleased to realize this project with Amazon MGM Studios.
