The first few episodes of this new series from Taika Waititi were not very strong. The humor was quite lame and lame. Only after Blackbeard (played by Waititi) made his entrance in the third episode did the series go to the next level and now it actually gets more fun every episode. Funny fact is that the series is based on a pirate who actually existed (Stede Bonnet, The Gentleman Pirate: https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stede_Bonnet) and that many of the events in the series are based on things that really happened. Probably slightly different and less funny than in the series, but I was surprised that the fact that Bonnet and Blackbeard were on a ship together for a while actually happened. I still have to watch the last episodes, so I'm curious whether the story still offers opportunities for a second season. Not according to Wikipedia ;-)
After a very funny first season, the second season is a real letdown for me. I don't know exactly which target group they have in mind here, but I am clearly not one of them. The humor is just as weak as the first episodes of season 1. While that season was about the gentleman pirate Stede, it is now mainly about all kinds of romantic or semi-romantic entanglements between the pirates. No, unfortunately not my cup of tea anymore. I quit.
