San Diego Comic Con offers a look at the final season of Outlander

During San Diego Comic-Con, Outlander took over the legendary Hall H, where star Sam Heughan took the stage.
Outlander star Sam Heughan wasn't alone on stage at San Diego Comic-Con. He was there with producers Matthew B. Roberts and Maril Davis, and cast members Sophie Skelton (Brianna MacKenzie) and Richard Rankin (Roger MacKenzie). Despite the enthusiastic atmosphere, it was confirmed that Droughtlander—the long wait between seasons—will continue until early 2026, when the eighth and final season premieres on Starz.

Starz surprised fans with a teaser that goes "back in time" to the beginning of the series and picks up on a dramatic cliffhanger from the seventh season. It suggested that Jamie Fraser's (Heughan) fate hangs in the balance.

Although Caitriona Balfe (Claire Fraser) couldn't be there in person due to filming the thriller film Amateur, she sent a warm video message:

"We had so many wonderful moments together in Hall H—I vaguely remember drinking, dancing, even a bit of Irish dancing. But it's not over yet. I'm so excited for you all to see the final leg of this journey, which has meant so much to all of us."

Heughan reminisced about the early years of the series. He joked, "I don't think Jamie knew what he was getting into either. What if he'd never met Claire?" He spoke warmly about the adventure, the travels, and the connection with the cast, crew, and fans.

When a fan from the audience shouted, "Sam, my wife loves you!" the room erupted in laughter. Moderator Aisha Tyler suggested having T-shirts made with that phrase—something Heughan says he hears often.

The cast members expressed their gratitude to the fans who have remained loyal to them for years. They openly spoke of tears on set during the final days of filming and the close bond that has developed within the team. Heughan concluded hopefully: "Maybe this is our last Comic-Con panel… but you never know."

Finally, the audience was treated to a live performance of the Outlander theme song by Raya Yarbrough, after which bagpipers took the stage to announce the panel for the spin-off Outlander: Blood of My Blood.

Even though the end is nearing, the cast and fans proved once again that the world of Outlander is still alive—and that the magic of time travel and eternal love is hard to let go of.
