Last season of Outlander gets start date from Starz

After nearly twelve years, the beloved time-travel drama Outlander is coming to an end. Starz has announced when the eighth and final season will be released. With the end of Outlander, the story of Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) will be concluded. The final season follows more than a year after the end of season seven, which concluded in January.

Although Outlander itself is coming to an end, the franchise will continue: the prequel series Outlander: Blood of My Blood — which focuses on the parents of Jamie and Claire — has already been renewed for a second season.

With eight seasons and 101 episodes, Outlander will become the longest-running original series in the history of Starz. The production is handled by Sony Pictures Television and is based on the popular novels by Diana Gabaldon.

The synopsis for the final season reads: “Jamie and Claire discover that the American Revolutionary War has followed them to Fraser’s Ridge, which has grown into a thriving settlement during their absence. New residents and changes force them to question what they are willing to sacrifice for their home — and more importantly, for each other.

As they stand together against outside invaders, family secrets that finally come to light threaten to tear them apart from within. While they have left the fight for America’s freedom behind, their battle for Fraser’s Ridge has only just begun.”

In addition to Balfe and Heughan, Sophie Skelton, Richard Rankin, John Bell, David Berry, Charles Vandervaart, and Izzy Meikle-Small will also return in the final chapter of the series.

The final season of Outlander starts on Friday, March 6, 2026, on Starz.
