Outlander - Season 7 (part 2)

The magic is fading away at Outlander.
The light is slowly fading. The series that used to rely on an interesting story now regularly falls into repetition. Especially the sugary declarations of love are now too much of a good thing. The sweetness of the barely aging Jamie and Claire is matched by a number of other couples this season. Wonderful swooning for one. For the other it is waiting for the next scene. I belong to the latter category. Especially because these scenes add very little to the story these days.

Outlander delivers exactly what we've come to expect from this series for seven seasons.

Another downside is that everything is connected to the Frasers. The dimensions of the newly proclaimed United States were not as large in the period in which it is set as they are now. Still, it is remarkable that everyone keeps running into each other. Even in the forest where even the most trained trapper loses his way, people run into each other. Without having to make any effort. Even meeting new people turns out to be connected to Jamie and Claire's past. Remarkable, but by now a bit too common in Outlander. It makes a series about time travel even more unbelievable.

Is it all doom and gloom? No, it's not that bad. The creators behind the series still know what they score well on. Action and adventure mixed with dramatic (love) stories. This second part is also full of that. With that, Outlander still reaches a wide audience. Especially because this is still combined with beautiful images. Not only of landscapes and decors but also of the people and their adventures. There are more and more travelers who also travel through time to make this happen. Soon everyone will travel freely and happily from period to period. It ensures that old acquaintances are introduced again in this season. It seems to be done mainly to work towards the grand finale.

It makes a series about time travel even more unbelievable.

Outlander delivers exactly what we have been expecting from this series for seven seasons. It is still entertaining to enjoy a romantically portrayed time. The harsh reality is always mixed with beautifully portrayed events. The violence is not shunned. It is even portrayed quite directly. Yet someone will not quickly drop out because of that. That is because it always seems to turn out a little better afterwards. Not that this is always the result, but the positive feeling is always present. The rocks in the surf, Jamie and Claire, ensure that. Together with a number of family members who once again manage to get by very well this season.

Outlander is nothing new under the sun in the seventh season. That is exactly what we expect. The formula is getting a bit worn out at times. Yet it is still good enough to watch the eighth season. After all, you want to know how this will all end. Yet there is also relief that the end of this series is near. The moments when irritation arises about created situations seem to increase with each season.
