I am really a big fan of the series of our Southern neighbors. Sense of Tumor, Tabula Rasa, La Treve, Ennemi Public, all gems. I started with Over Water with high expectations, but this one is not for me. Of course I can't prove this, but I think the writer has a rather difficult relationship with women. Maybe he still has some unprocessed emotions, because his mother used to refuse to read him a bedtime story or something. Almost all women in this series are unstable, insecure and sickly dependent on the man in their life. The more you pay attention to it, the more terrifying it becomes. The lack of bed time stories has ensured that the writer has been forced to develop his fantasy nicely. Maybe a little too much, because Over Water is a series of tough stories. Nothing wrong with a good dose of drama, but you can of course also exaggerate. The story also lacks tension, so you are mainly focused on the characters. That would not have to be a problem, were it not for the fact that they are all linked together from unlikableness. There is actually not one character that runs off with your heart. At least not mine. Apart from the nice grim, almost Scandinavian, cinematography, Over Water does not have much to offer. The Belgians have proven several times in recent years that they master the art of series crafting excessively well, but Over Water is not the shining example of this. A very thin six. If you ask me. Not that anyone did, but I couldn't contain myself. Apologies for that. It will not happen again. Probably.
