Did we all go equally well at Narcos last year ?! Rightly so. What a series. What could be better than watching insane delusions of grandeur for ten episodes, which also happened? Well, how about SEVENTY FOUR episodes looking at insane delusions of grandeur that actually happened? That is possible. Where Netflix has neatly reduced the story of the drug lord di tutti drug lords to two bite-sized seasons of 10 episodes, they have taken a little more time for it at Caracol. Almost all of 2012 to be precise. Five nights a week from May to October, Don Pablo shot everyone who had the gore guts to stand between him and his beloved plata. Pablo Escobar: El Patrón Del Mal is therefore not one for the people who have to make do with a small portion of sitting meat. For the persistent it is a must, although that is not immediately because it is such a great good series. If you put Pablo Escobar: El Patrón Del Mal along the yardstick of everything that can be great about a series, it falls short in almost all areas. Actors? They don't have to be able to act at all, dude. If they stand upright and can thump up four lines of text, then that's just fine. Special effects? Thunderbirds was also a great success and you could still see all the strings there. Audio post-processing? Isn't that necessary at all? What does it matter that in the more energetic scenes the microphone is panted like a Beagle who has just spent a whole day fetching in the loose sand of Scheveningen? Nothing. People do realize that we had to make this with a fairly small wallet. They just have to see its charm. The charm. Let that be exactly what makes this such a great series. Sure it's clumsy. Of course it seems as if the cast of Goeie Tijden, Bad Tijden has decided to tell the story of Pablo this television season. Sure, Narcos is the better choice in almost all areas, but is it as addictive as Pablo Escobar? I dare to doubt it.
To be honest, I thought "El Patron Del Mal" was better than "Narcos", which here and there makes fun of reality. Of course it does not look so slick, which as you say yourself will certainly have to do with the budget, but if there is one thing that keeps the whole thing alive, apart from the way the whole story about 74 episodes is told, then it is for me. Andres Parra, who, at least as far as I am concerned, comes across as very credible in his role as Pablo Escobar. Naturally mother nature lends a hand here because he really has the right face for this role.
For me it is a bit of a hobbling in two minds. I think the entertainment value of Narcos trumps the charm of Pablo Escobar for me, but that feeling may be different tomorrow. And Parra is indeed an owner. Also really curious about Queen Of The South.
There is no question that "Narcos" has a higher entertainment level and looks away more easily than "El Patron del Mal"; The Colombian series takes about four times as long to tell the same story over the same period. The toll you pay for this as a viewer, however, is that "Narcos" sometimes leaves things out or changes facts for the sake of convenience, which makes the whole less truthful. Nevertheless, more than likely 9 out of 10 viewers will have a preference for "Narcos". As is usually the case, I am the tenth viewer :-)
pffffff most addictive series for me so far, finished all 74 episodes in 8 days, another 3 episodes and I fell into a coma LOL The budget would be lower than narcos, half as much even. That is certainly not noticeable in my opinion. This series is more about the political background and less about the coke trade. It took a bit of getting used to the character of Pablo, but that happened quickly. After 5 episodes you will be sold, 5 stars
The episodes on Netflix have a different duration. Read this: https://www.mijnserie.nl/nieuws/columns/14779- Change-van-seasonen-tijden-en-afleveringen-bij-streamingsdiensten-en-zenders/
Indeed a great series, you can see that it was made on a limited budget, the style of the South American Telenovelles takes some getting used to but the storyline is good, and relatively truthful. Let's see how Netflix brings the story around Pablo Escobar. http://www.mijnserie.nl/narcos/
Top series! I saw the first episode of this series in 2014 on RTL Crime and was immediately addicted. This series shows the life of the infamous Pablo Escobar from start to finish. The great thing about this series is that it also sketches reality, for example there are real news images of events that took place at the time. The series consists of 74 episodes and are more than worth watching! I have seen this series before Narcos, the rendering of this series is excellent. Because of this achievement I stopped watching Narcos as no other series, about Pablo Escobar, can match this series. In addition, Andrés Parra portrays the character of Pablo Escobar and this has certainly succeeded, where I find the actor Wagner Moura, from the Narcos series, a worse rendition of the character. In short; this series gets a 10 from me and is definitely worth watching! A tip though; watch the Narcos series first so that you don't set the expectations so high!
Ah yes, after Narcos, El Chapo, I thought it couldn't be any crazier, so I watch this series with amazement and enjoy watching despite the soap content, but that shouldn't spoil the fun. PS there seem to be even 154 parts but Netflix does not participate.
