Chemirmir entered nursing homes and private homes posing as a maintenance man. Once inside, he strangled his victims with a pillow, stole their jewelry and belongings, and disappeared without a trace. His victims—often elderly single women—appeared to have died of natural causes, so his actions initially went unnoticed.
It wasn’t until 2018, when a 91-year-old woman survived an attack and described her attacker, that the case gained momentum. Her testimony led to his arrest. Chemirmir was eventually found guilty and sentenced to life in prison without parole. He died in prison in 2023 after an incident with a fellow inmate.
Pillowcase Murders provides a gripping account of the investigation, which was hampered for years by mistakes, miscommunication, and a lack of urgency from the authorities. The series contains never-before-seen footage, exclusive interviews with investigators, experts and relatives of the victims and a critical look at how vulnerable population groups can become victims of systematic failure
This Paramount+ production, which will be released on Streamz, fits in with the trend of in-depth true crime documentaries such as The Staircase (2005) and The Keepers – but with its own, compelling tone.
