The series premiered on November 7 with two episodes. Although official Nielsen ratings are not yet available, Luminate reported that Pluribus achieved 6.4 million viewing hours in the US in its first week. This earned the series a fourth place in the weekly rankings, a remarkable achievement given that Pluribus only had two episodes compared to competitors with much more available content. There were even reports that the Apple TV app temporarily crashed due to the large influx.
Apple TV's head of programming, Matt Cherniss, praised the success and especially the enjoyment of keeping the mysterious series a secret for years. He commended Gilligan's original, unconventional concept and the strong acting performance of lead actress Rhea Seehorn.
Pluribus was acquired in 2022 after a bidding war with a direct order for two seasons. The genre mix of sci-fi and drama follows Carol Sturka (Rhea Seehorn), the most miserable person on earth, who – ironically – must save the world from happiness.
Karolina Wydra and Carlos Manuel Vesga also star, with guest roles for Miriam Shor and Samba Schutte.
Episode 4, titled Please, Carol, was released last Friday, November 21, followed by weekly releases until December 26. Additionally, a complete chapter from Bloodsong of Wycaro, a fictional work from the world of Pluribus, is available on Apple Books.
