Prehistoric Planet

Just like the first season, season two is again thoroughly enjoyable. I really like that this season they are showing even more diverse prehistoric life instead of just dinosaurs (early mammals, small herbivorous crocodiles and giant toads). I also think the bit of scientific justification at the end of each episode is a nice addition.

I find the third season significantly weaker than the first two. There are several reasons for this:
1. The new presenter, Tom Hiddleston, has a narrative voice that I personally don't like. It's very cloying.
2. It's about mammals in the Ice Age, but this one makes extensive use of anthropomorphism. This means attributing human characteristics to animals. At times, this creates a very strong "Disney effect," with cute young animals with big eyes, where almost everything has to end well.
3. The animals are big. Very big. But because there's nothing in the series that tells you their true size, it doesn't come across. As a European, feet and inches don't mean much to me. Only in the final episode do they start comparing them to things we know.
4. Despite the very interesting scientific bits at the end of each episode, I still get the feeling they made up a lot just to make a good story. Which makes me wonder what the scientific basis for that is.
5. The CGI is decent, but the fur, in particular, sometimes feels like it came from an AI prompt. Far too smooth and not convincing everywhere.

Don't get me wrong, it's still a fun series to watch, but unfortunately I found this season a lot less convincing.
