I am very sorry how Episode 10 of Season 6 ended. They should have stopped at the scene where the girls say goodbye and leave Rosewood to start a life of their own. And not with an open end 5 years later ...

For a long time I doubted whether I should watch this series. Last week, on a rainy evening, I made an attempt. I have just finished the first season and I am not very enthusiastic at all. Let's start with the positive. The acting is fine, the pace is reasonably good and no matter how nonsensical the mystery is in my eyes, you are still curious how it works exactly. But that mystery is also an annoyance point. They milk it out so much it just gets annoying. I was already tired of that hassle with the text messages etc after episode 1 and as the episodes followed I started to get more and more annoyed by those predictable "I know what you did" things. Problem is I think that I absolutely do not belong to the target group, you can see that from the reactions here, almost only women / teenagers. And although I can usually turn the switch and poke through all the clichés, it was extremely difficult not to annoy me while watching this series: the clichés literally fly around your ears. Standard popular / spoiled school girls with too much make-up who all have the cutest / widest boys in the school, a girl with weight problems, a slutty and manipulative mother, a lesbian scene, bullying, broken homes, cheating, a blind teen on high heels in a prada dress, forbidden loves, etc. And then I only summarize the first 15 minutes of episode 1. In short, a bit too much of a good thing and, above all, a lot of nonsense about nonsensical teenage problems that are only annoying for people who do not belong to that target group. No, it is not very bad, but this makes me anything but happy. In my opinion it is a kind of Desperate Housewifes, but for teenagers.

I have now copied the entire series and I can only conclude that it is a very mediocre series. It is not only due to the previously mentioned cliches, but also to the lack of tension, unrealistic disputes, highly predictable events, etc. All that added up, I am left with a very disappointed feeling. The tension: Although it is of course nice with a mystery if there is some kind of tension build-up, they take it very literally here. Literally every episode features exactly the same tension build-up with exactly the same result. And although it is bursting with tension build-ups, it never really gets exciting. And every time you think things are going to be exciting, something childish happens that disproves everything. Also, each time it lacks a satisfying climax, and when it does, it is so unrealistic that it is totally unsatisfying again. Predictability: Literally all parts of the series are extremely predictable. In itself I can still see through that, but because they use the same tactics almost every few episodes, you actually know immediately what is going to happen with scene 1 ... so few surprises. And yes, who A is, that remains unpredictable, but that is done so badly and unrealistically, and it gets so chewed that you experience that "just not" happening more as disturbing than as exciting / original. And I'm not even talking about the fact that they turn the story in such a way that it could actually be half the city. Fooling the viewer can be fun, but this series really made no sense. Everyone turned out to have a cousin, twin sister, adopted brother, etc who was capable of murder .... very unrealistic again. Over the top: In addition, everything is really flashy, cliched and completely over the top. Example: a) Ezra and Aira are about to go on a honeymoon. Just as they walk out the door - how coincidentally - the police are right at the door with news about Ezra's missing girlfriend. The chance that the police would show up at the door exactly at that moment is literally less than 1%, but this is where it happens. And not once, but this kind of thing happens a few times every episode. There is also such a thing as exaggeration. b) At one point they are 5 years later. A normal person changes almost nothing in 5 years in terms of appearance, but no in this series everyone has literally changed completely. The girls have all of a sudden gotten a grown-up make-up look to look older, they are wearing some duller clothes, are suddenly all engaged or married. The men suddenly all have beards, the nerds are suddenly super successful, etc. A few adjustments are fine, but this was so obvious that it was just laughably bad. c) Emily's mom wants to celebrate her birthday as quietly as possible, so they go out for dinner. And of course there are just a few noisy people who disturb their dinner. Not a problem in itself, but then they come up with a whole bachelor group again, way too over the top again, and the worst thing is that three minutes later it is all cake and egg with everyone again, but also become like just seen. d) The girls are off limits and should not be caught. It is pitch dark, but all the girls shine with fierce sack runs through the entire environment while also talking to each other in a normal tone, and sometimes even screaming. totally unrealistic again. And this does not happen 1, but dozens of times. There are also many chases where they literally drive 2 meters away from the suspect, while there is no other car in the distance .... Uhh no, that is really not noticeable. e) A literally sees and hears everything. And by literally I mean really literally. Whether they are still whispering somewhere in the attic, sitting in a bedroom with one of the girls, in the madhouse or wherever. Not a problem for A, who apparently has access to every room in the entire city. Completely unrealistic again. And what about the stolen money (hanna's mother) that hanna takes out of a drying container in the toilet. Very coincidentally that Hanna is just there and nobody else. f) The series is of course called prety little liars, but that doesn't mean all ladies have to lie about literally everything. Not only the choices the ladies make, but also the lies they come up with are not about anything at all. Even if there is no reason at all, they lie to themselves accidentally. That must of course be for the story, because half of the problems in the series come from stupid lies that shouldn't have been lies at all. Here too I understand the point, but some nuance is hard to find. And this all sounds a bit silly, but literally every episode is packed with annoyances like this. And that's not the worst, they repeat everything over and over again, just in a different form. In short, you are actually waiting all the time who A is, but they stretch this out like this, with such unrealistic plot twists, such predictable tension builds, predictable love troubles and childish (shock) reactions and climaxes, that your hair literally falls out of shame. .
