První republika

První republika is a Czech drama series which aired on ČT1. The series premiered on January 17, 2014.

A saga mapping the atmosphere of the First Republic from 1918 to 1945... At the center of the action are the colorful fates of the branched Valent family, which got rich on war contracts and moves from the countryside to Prague, to Podolí. In this part of Prague, there are only meadows, a few old factory chimneys and post-war poverty. However, the enterprising Valent family will change Podolí. But not alone and not easily. There is rivalry between brothers in their family.
There is a secret that entails the search for an old pre-war murder, and the characters also experience their fateful loves. The series should be the story of the First (and also the Second) Republic, which is told through the eyes of a family from the upper classes, i.e. the class that most shaped the face of our republic and set the political and social standards that are still referred to today, but the spectrum of main and secondary characters is very diverse.
The series will thus cover various layers of society, from the elite to the working and peasant classes. The fates of the heroes will also intertwine with the events of that time and remind viewers of some significant moments in Czech history.
