There will not be another season for the African Netflix original Queen Sono. It was renewed in April but Netflix has decided to revert that decision. There will not be a new season for
Queen Sono, which premiered near the end of February. Last April, Netflix
renewed the series with a second season. That decision has now been reverted and the series has been cancelled. The streaming service has not yet publicly released a reason for the decision.
Queen Sono was Netflix's first African original series.
Fellow creator and director Kagiso Lediga said the following about the cancellation; “We wrote a beautiful story that spanned the continent but unfortunately could not be executed in these current trying times".
The series revolves around a highly trained South-African spy (Pearl Thusi,
Quantico). She has to deal with changing relations in her personal life as she takes on an incredibly dangerous mission.
