Rick and Morty spin-off President Curtis gets greenlight from Adult Swim

Adult Swim is expanding the Rick and Morty universe with a new animated spin-off series: President Curtis.
The spinoff was announced during the panel for the popular animated series Rick and Morty at San Diego Comic-Con. The series centers on President Andre Curtis, a recurring character since the beloved "Get Schwifty" episode in season two, voiced by Keith David.

In addition to David, Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and Jim Rash (Community) will also lend their voices to the project. President Curtis is being co-developed by Dan Harmon and James Siciliano, both executive producers of Rick and Morty.

The series follows President Curtis and his eccentric staff as they tackle bizarre crises, ranging from interdimensional diplomacy and paranormal investigations to unexplained phenomena. A release date has not yet been announced.

“President Curtis has always been a joy to play,” said Keith David. “Exploring his world further is a dream come true. Fans can look forward to the chaos he causes—especially now that Rick is out of the way.”

Michael Ouweleen, president of Adult Swim, is also enthusiastic: "We would have approved this series even if it hadn't had anything to do with Rick and Morty. President Curtis is just such a strong character."

Harmon and Siciliano called him "one of their favorite characters to write": "He's the only one in the multiverse who can handle Rick and still stay in office. Now we can finally experience sci-fi missions from his perspective. With Keith David at the helm, it promises to be a wild ride."

Rick and Morty launched in 2013 and will soon conclude its eighth season. The franchise has previously expanded with spinoffs like Vindicators 2: Last Stand Between Earth and Doom and Rick and Morty: The Anime.
