Riot Women is a British drama series which aired on BBC One. The series premiered on October 12th, 2025.
Five women along with two riotous backing singers come together to create a makeshift punk-rock band in order to enter a local talent contest, but in writing their first original song, soon discover that they have a lot to say - and this is their way to say it.
Okay, so it wasn't what I expected. But that doesn't mean I don't think it's a good show. Quite the opposite. Even though I'm not usually a fan of drama series, I watched this one in its entirety. The acting is fantastic, and you always want to know what happens next. And yes, there's some humor here and there. Thankfully, otherwise it would have been too heavy, but that humor is certainly not the main focus of the show.
The music is excellent, I have to say. Hole's music plays a major role in the series. The lyrics to "Violet" are also quite on point for one of the main characters. And the songs the ladies perform themselves are also absolutely fantastic. And yes, they play and sing it themselves, according to the BBC.
The series leaves us with two loose ends that could potentially lead to a second season, though nothing is known about that yet. But it wouldn't really be necessary. Most storylines have been neatly wrapped up. But if it does happen, I'll definitely watch it. Drama or no drama.
If you like strong series that tackle some pretty heavy topics like suicide, adoption, misogyny and some of that heavy shit, but also have some lighthearted humor and, not to forget, good music, then Riot Women is definitely for you.
