NBCUniversal's platform will stream SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night, a four-part series about life behind the scenes of NBC's long-running sketch comedy program, on Thursday, January 16.
Morgan Neville is one of the executive producers of the project, which will feature a number of SNL staffers and a wealth of never-before-seen footage, as the filmmakers were granted unrestricted access to the program's archives.
Robert Alexander, Marshall Curry, Neil Berkeley and Jason Zeldes directed the episodes, each highlighting a different aspect of the show. The episodes are as follows:
Five Minutes: A look at the SNL audition process, featuring never-before-seen footage from past auditions and first-hand accounts from cast members about how they prepared for their auditions. Directed by Alexander.
Written By: A Week Inside the SNL Writers Room: Directed by Curry, follows the process of getting a sketch from the page to the live show on Saturday.
More Cowbells: Directed by Berkeley, a deep dive into the making of the classic 2000 sketch featuring host Christopher Walken and cast members Will Ferrell, Chris Parnell, Jimmy Fallon, Horatio Sanz and Chris Kattan.
“Season 11: The Weird Year”: Director Zeldes examines the 1985-86 season of SNL, which marked Lorne Michaels' return to the program after a five-year absence but turned out to be an exceptionally bad season on screen.
Neville, Caitrin Rogers and showrunner Juaquin Cambron produce SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night. Jonathan Formica (episodes one and four) and Allison Klein (episodes two and three) are the producers.
