Shetland is een Britse misdaadserie van de zender BBC One. De serie ging in première op 10 maart 2013.
Deze BBC-serie is gebaseerd op een reeks thrillers van de succesvolle misdaadschrijfster Ann Cleeves, in 2012 toegelaten tot de Crime Thriller Hall of Fame. De verhalen hebben als decor de ongerepte natuur van de Shetlandeilanden, ten noordoosten van Schotland. Dit is een gebied waar de winters lang en koud zijn en waar de bevolking leeft in kleine, hechte gemeenschappen. In het eerste seizoen maken we kennis met Jimmy Perez, een plaatselijke politie-inspecteur. Hij is een echte Shetlander die jaren elders heeft gewoond maar op een bepaald moment is teruggekeerd naar zijn geboortegrond, samen met zijn veertienjarige dochter Cassie. Perez is iemand die nooit teveel zegt maar wel natuurlijk gezag uitstraalt: een combinatie van eigenschappen die hem bij het oplossen van misdrijven goed van pas komt.

Grandiose is this series, beautiful scenery, vivid images. Really good: acting and storyline. Absolutely recommended, as far as I am concerned.

An exciting series set on the mystical Shetland Islands in which the intelligent, persistent inspector Jimmie Perez solves complex crimes with his small team. Particularly strong from seasons 3 to 5 because of the various storylines in which it appears that a crime can lead to different perpetrators and victims, each time with a cliffhanger that makes you want to quickly look further. Can be seen in full on NPO, pleasant and convenient.

I have been watching this series for years and always look forward to the next season. The actors are all fantastic, no American schmuck, just people as they are in normal life. Nature and weather conditions indicate how people live there. Every episode seems believable and I can't wait until the next season comes along. Hope many more come.

Good series in which Douglas Henshall excels in his role as Inspector who really suits him. The small society quickly adds a sentimental touch to the storyline, but is not disturbing.

It was bleak, without DI Jimmy Perez, but Ashley Jensen (DI Ruth Calder) is absolutely not disappointing, she is actually a breath of fresh air for the series.

It was already one of my favorite series and remains so. Despite Perez's disappearance, the series remains fascinating. As far as I'm concerned, it can continue for years to come a la Midsomer.😁
