Terschelling, an island in the middle of the Wadden Sea that we know from our holiday. But what it was like to live there, and what you could - depending on where you lived on the island - and the further you lived on "East", the worse you had it, because the more it became looked down. Sil is a beachcomber in heart and soul. A little storm and he goes to the beach to spy for castaways and, if possible, beach gear. One day - when there is a huge storm - there are frantic attempts to save the crew of a boat, but to no avail, only a little Swedish girl can save Sil. He adopts her and becomes his apple eye. His two sons become, when she becomes a beautiful teenage girl, Sil has a hard time keeping the two boys away from her. The film follows the book (Written by Cor Bruyn) quite closely. In addition, the atmosphere of the islanders and their island is also displayed very well.
