Slow Horses is een Britse thrillerserie van de zender Apple TV+. De serie ging in première op 1 april 2022.
Slough House is een stortplaats voor leden van de inlichtingendienst die het hebben verprutst: een dienstdossier in een trein achtergelaten of een surveillance verprutst of onbetrouwbaar dronken zijn geworden bijvoorbeeld. Het zijn de arme relaties van de dienst, de Slow Horses en de meest bittere onder hen is River Cartwright, wiens dagen worden doorgebracht met het uitschrijven van mobiele telefoongesprekken. Maar wanneer een jonge man wordt ontvoerd en zijn ontvoerders hem live op internet dreigen te onthoofden, ziet River een kans om zichzelf te redden. Maar is het slachtoffer wel wie hij lijkt te zijn. Season 5 feels like Slow Horses with a little more courage, a little more humanity, and a little more fun. Not every risk works out perfectly, but that's precisely what makes it so exciting to keep watching. Despite those minor hiccups, the series continues to captivate me with immense pleasure; it has that unique charm that draws me in again and again. On to the next season!

Slow Horses feels like a fresh, unconventional take on the espionage genre. It's not about slick super-spies, but rather about the discarded MI5 agents who've ruined their careers, and that makes for surprisingly good television. Gary Oldman is brilliant as Jackson Lamb: coarse, lazy-looking, but secretly razor-sharp. His sarcastic humor gives the series a wonderful bite.
What truly makes Slow Horses so strong for me is the combination of dry British humor and serious suspense. The plots are cleverly constructed, without overblown blockbuster nonsense, and the characters grow on you with each season. The pace is fast, the dialogue is sharp, and you constantly sense that something or someone is about to go off the rails.
It's not a show that relies on big explosions, but on clever plotting and character development. That's precisely what keeps it captivating; each episode feels like a glimpse into the chaotic, dark backroom of the Secret Service.

I've only seen the first episode so far and don't really feel like watching further. I didn't find it particularly exciting, fun or good. I'm still in doubt, because of all the hurray reactions here, but I still have plenty to watch that I'm sure I still want to see...
