Hit series Squid Game continues to break records for Netflix

Hit series Squid Game continues to break records for Netflix

Squid Game continues to be a global phenomenon, once again breaking records for Netflix.
The third season of Squid Game, which premiered on June 27, racked up 60.1 million views in its first three days—a new record for Netflix. In the second week, that number increased by another 46.3 million, bringing the total to 106.3 million views in two weeks. This makes it the third-highest-grossing Netflix series ever in that timeframe.

Squid Game

It's striking that Squid Game managed to occupy the top three spots on the global Netflix charts in a single week, something previously only achieved by Stranger Things and La Casa de Papel (Money Heist).

Older seasons are also benefiting: season two garnered 4.9 million views, and the first season, which has been in the top 10 for over 30 weeks, added another 3.8 million views.

The enormous success has Netflix considering potential spin-offs. A project helmed by director David Fincher is being discussed, among other things.

Besides Squid Game, The Old Guard 2, the action film starring Charlize Theron, also performed well. The film debuted at number one on the English-language film chart with 37.5 million views. The original film from 2020 also remained popular and returned to the top 10 with 9.5 million views (3.2 million of which were in the past week).

I really don't understand it.
I've now seen the first episode of Season 3, but I don't feel any urgency to watch the rest. Season 1 was decent, although it felt very similar to the previously released Alice in Borderland, but Season 2 was largely a rehash of Season 1, and Season 3 hasn't offered anything new or interesting so far. I think I'll finish it. But really, there are so many better shows out there...
