Despite Ted's excellent performance, the decision to renew the comedy series was not an easy one, as the hybrid live-action/CGI nature of the series makes it expensive to produce (some estimates put the budget in the neighborhood of $10 million per episode), and it also takes a long time to make.
Still, it was important to Peacock to keep its biggest hit, and four months after the release of the first season, the streamer has ordered a second season.
Set in 1993, Ted comes from writer, director, executive producer and showrunner MacFarlane. Ted (MacFarlane)'s moment of fame is over. He now lives back home in Framingham, Massachusetts, with his best friend, sixteen-year-old John Bennett (Max Burkholder), along with John's parents, Matty and Susan (Scott Grimes and Alanna Ubach) and niece Blaire (Giorgia Whigham). Ted may be a bad influence on John, but ultimately he is a loyal friend who is always willing to stick his neck out for friendship.
The series is produced by UCP - a division of Universal Studio Group - MacFarlane's Fuzzy Door and MRC. Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh are the writers, executive producers and co-showrunners. Erica Huggins, Alana Kleiman, Jason Clark and Aimee Carlson (Fuzzy Door Productions) also serve as executive producers.
In addition to Ted's strong viewership in the US, the series also performed well internationally in English-speaking territories. In the UK it was the biggest US comedy opening on Sky in more than two decades and in Australia it was Fox8's No. 1 international series premiere over the past two years and the biggest US comedy opening on streaming service Binge.
In Canada, it was the No. 1 series on Showcase this year, while it was the most-watched series for streaming on StackTV (VOD) during its first season.
