Unfortunately not a worthy successor to "Deadwood" but rather "Barbarians Rising" with cowboys and Indians. That was the first thing that came to mind on this documentary, because that's what it is. As with the History Channel docudrama mentioned earlier, you will be slapped every 30 seconds with expert commentary. In contrast to "BR", you know a large part of the "experts" on duty here. For example, during the first 2 minutes Tom Selleck, Mark Harmon and Kiefer Sutherland pass by to give their vision on all the events that pass on the screen, followed by Danny Glover and Robert Redford with "expert" comments. Where the question at "Barbarians Rising" was how many experts you actually need, AMC clearly shows that according to them you can never have enough so that after a good 20 minutes in the first episode you have already seen 25 interventions by countless "experts" which doesn't really make the whole thing any better. In other words, excess does harm, and I doubt that many non-American viewers will sit out the entire series to the bitter end. I already have a feeling that this is not going to be the case for me.
