During The Boys Comic-Con panel, where Ackles made a surprise appearance to announce Vought Rising, The Boys developer, executive producer and showrunner Eric Kripke revealed that Ackles will return as a regular in season five of the parent series, starring his character Soldier Boy.
“We can announce that Soldier Boy will be a regular in Season 5,” Kripke said Friday. “The motherf*cker’s back.”
Kripke had previously said in a 2022 interview, “We’ll all have to wait and see, but I can’t imagine the series ending without Soldier Boy making another appearance.”
A return of Ackles was already shared in the recent season four finale. Soldier Boy, a series regular when introduced in season three, disappeared in season four before returning in a post-credits scene in the finale. After Senator Calhoun is sworn in as the new President, he takes Homelander to a room where Soldier Boy – Homelander's biological father – lies in a drug-induced slumber into which he was put by Grace Mallory in the season three finale.
During the panel, Ackles was asked what Soldier Boy was doing in that room, to which he gave a curt, NSFW answer. You can watch that and Kripke's announcement of Soldier Boy's return below:
