This historical drama that was allegedly too expensive for the BBC was eventually made for Netflix, which allocated 110 million euros for this production. The result is absolutely stunning and perhaps this is an unexpected contender to compete with "The Night Of" for the title of best series of this year. It is unlikely how strikingly John Lithgow will portray a Winston Churchill here, all the more so because the man with his 1.93 m is literally a head taller than the then English prime minister with his 1.67 m. Although the series is of course not about him but about him. an equally convincing Claire Foy who stars in her role as Queen Elizabeth II. For those who are not afraid to learn something or want to polish up his / her history lesson, this is definitely a must, a format that equals the very best BBC productions in every way. For me, this series has already ended up in my top 10 of all time.

I have only seen 1 episode, but the quality is really dripping. And indeed John Lithgow's role as Churchill is truly phenomenal. Plan time to cover the rest of the season in one go.

Um, this series is a fiction series based on real people and events. But with an emphasis on fiction! See last week's news about whether or not to add a disclaimer that it is a fiction series. Netflix didn't think that was necessary. In their own words: “According to Netflix, such a disclaimer is not necessary.” We have always presented The Crown as a drama and we are convinced that viewers understand that it is fiction based on historical events. plans to add a disclaimer. ” But when I read such a reaction as above, Netflix seems to overestimate their audience ...

What a ridiculous response to someone's opinion. You say yourself that the series is based on true events. And even if it was / is only fiction, this opinion may still be given!

I mean it like this: yes, it is based on real persons and events. But no, it is not a historically accurate rendition. In addition, I nowhere say that mvdl85 is not allowed to give this opinion and I think I am also free to have an opinion about it. Moreover, does this not detract from the quality of the series? Just don't take it too seriously. Because not everything happened as depicted in the series. That is exactly why they wanted that disclaimer. Otherwise, read this article: https://nos.nl/artikel/2359479-netflix-vindt-fictie-verwuwing-bij-the-crown-niet-nodig.html

I think it is strange, given the many ratings above 9 (which I can see then), that the average of the series is only 8.5. I am very curious about the reasons people give this series a 7 or lower.

I could be wrong, but think it mainly has to do with age. If you look at the statistics for this series, it turns out that more than 75% of the viewers on mijnserie.nl are 30 and older, which seems quite logical to me given the subject. I would be surprised if it were different with the extent to which the series is actually appreciated. A younger audience will in any case be less in touch with what this series is all about, because what was world news at the time is a far cry from my bed show for an average twenty or younger, and any action, tension or suspense is of course hard to find, which is not away from the fact that it is an extremely fascinating series. But I imagine that in a younger age group, few, for example, will ever have heard of King Edward VII and Wallis Simpson, whose romance ultimately led Elizabeth to sit on the throne for more than 60 years. Since the first season is mainly about her youth and the early years that she reigned, I can only hope that Netflix will spend roughly 110 million more times to cover the remaining 50/55 years. As far as I am concerned, it may even cost a little more if they promise that the level of the first season will be maintained.

Indeed, think you have a point in age. Yet everyone will be able or even have to see the quality of the acting, storyline, camera work, etc. But maybe not everyone recognizes quality, even if it is not your genre. I think I read on imdb.com that Netflix has already ordered 2 seasons with an option on another 4. And yes, as far as I am concerned, only if they strive for the same quality.

I also just read elsewhere that the plan would be to make a total of 6 seasons / 60 episodes with each season covering a 10-year period.

Beautiful series, but it remains a dated fairy tale about the British royal family that they hopelessly try to maintain with their money and power. Such wealth was of course obtained in a very dubious way, but hey, they have been manipulating the British people very effectively for hundreds of years and that will continue for a while! But once again fantastic series!

Yes everyone in England is being manipulated haha. This is a site about series, not about political preferences. Unfortunately, they are too common in series these days... And you also contradict yourself, but that's up to you.

My response has nothing to do with political preferences and I indeed decide for myself what I put here! But I still thought you bothered with this meaningless response (which literally has nothing to do with this series)... oh yeah haha

I think season 2 is a lot less than the 1st. Season 1 I was really on the edge of my seat with all the episodes. This is in contrast to the 2nd season. There are even episodes in season 2 that I flushed almost completely. (episode with Princess Margaret and the photographer and the episode with a look back at Prince Philip's boarding school).

Season 3 is really less. The 2 main actors have been replaced by 2 others. It no longer appeals to me. It's just boring looking.
