Premiere date for HBO's musical drama The Idol

HBO has announced the premiere date of The Idol, a series about the music industry, and released a trailer.
The series, starring Abel Tesfaye, better known as The Weeknd, and Lily-Rose Depp, follows a young pop idol (Depp) as she tries to deal with her troubled life.

The cast also includes Troye Sivan, Moses Sumney, Jane Adams (Sneaky Pete), Dan Levy (Schitt's Creek), Jennie Kim, Eli Roth, Rachel Sennott (Call Your Mother), Hari Nef (You), Da'Vine Joy Randolph (Only Murders in the Building), Mike Dean, Ramsey and Hank Azaria (Hello Tomorrow!)

The Idol

After a nervous breakdown derails Jocelyn's (Lily-Rose Depp) latest tour, she's determined to reclaim her rightful status as America's biggest and sexiest pop star. Her passion is rekindled by Tedros (Abel 'The Weeknd' Tesfaye), a nightclub impresario with a sordid past. Will her romantic awakening take her to glorious new heights or to the deepest and darkest depths of her soul?

The Idol will air on HBO starting Sunday, June 4 at 9 p.m. and can be streamed on Max. The series is co-created by Sam Levinson (HBO's Euphoria), Abel 'The Weeknd' Tesfaye and Reza Fahim. The series will premiere at the Festival de Cannes this year.

Co-creators are Sam Levinson, Abel "The Weeknd" Tesfaye and Reza Fahim, executive producers are Sam Levinson, Abel "The Weeknd" Tesfaye, Reza Fahim, Kevin Turen, Ashley Levinson, Joseph Epstein, Aaron L. Gilbert for BRON, and Sara E .White.

Sam Levinson has written The Idol with Abel 'The Weeknd' Tesfaye and Reza Fahim and Levinson will also direct. The series was produced in collaboration with A24.
