The Principal is an Australian drama which is aired on SBS. The series premiered in 2015.

The Principal is set in a notoriously violent and difficult Australian high school. Matt Bashir is promoted to Principal of Boxdale Boys High because of his different and radical approach to reform.

This is of course only the first sentence, but my gut says that Heartbreak High is going to be a lot in this piece of The Principal prose. “Heartbreak High?” I hear you think. Yes, Heartbreak High (See? Three times Heartbreak High, four times, and I haven't even started for real yet.). If you're in your thirties now, chances are that after hearing the last bell during high school, you would pop like crazy on your raised Cita so as not to miss a thing from Heartbreak High. It was the series you had to watch if you wanted to understand what everyone was talking about at the lockers the next day. What had Drazic gone to waste now and who had done it with whom after closing time at one of the pool tables in Shark Pool? If you wanted to count in school, it was better to have the answers to these questions ready than to the question what exactly osmosis was and in what year the Germans invaded Poland. Heartbreak High was basic knowledge and you couldn't function normally without it. At least not in Middelburg, where I come from. How happy I was when, scrolling through Netflix US, I stumbled upon The Principal, starring Alex Dimitriades. Sure, he now has the type of beard that should be accompanied by a fixie and a Herschel bag, but I Pavlovte right back to the 90's. To Heartbreak High and the time when he, as Nick Poulos in the schoolyard as a kind of Australian Brandon Walsh, made the girls run wild. Just like then, he also has to survive between school in The Principal. This time only not as an apprentice, but as rector of the entire shop. Quite spicy, because they made him the boss of Boxdale High and it is a mess, to say the least. Here, unlike Heartbreak High, not Katerina's constant flirtation or Jodie's mysterious elusiveness, but an all boys high school where testosterone tries to force its way out through all the cracks. Put three hundred adolescent boys in a locked room and it is only a matter of time until all hell breaks out and that is exactly what happens in The Principal. Apparently I am in my pedagogical phase, because within a week after Rita I watched the second series with The Principal, which takes place in and around the schoolyard. Unlike Rita, this is only one that you can just leave it for what it is. Sorry Alex. The Principal leans a bit towards the schizophrenic. On the one hand, it visually has that yellow arthouse hint, which you know from films such as Traffic and 21 grams. I always see this as a way of filming that should give the viewer the feeling that he is an eyewitness to adult importance. On the other hand, it hardly exceeds the level of the average teen series in terms of content. So it is actually a kind of Heartbreak High, but more grim. And worse. It therefore begs the question for who this series was actually made. For the adult viewer it is all a bit too childish, but for the average teenager maybe just a bit too heavy on the stomach. It's a bit of a veggie burger. The result of not clearly wanting to choose one or the other. Fortunately, we still have Heartbreak High (ten times!). www.gumstarr.com
