The Queen's Gambit breaks records at Netflix

Last month, The Queen's Gambit premiered at Netflix. The series has broken various records.

The Queen’s Gambit is a big hit at Netflix, but this is pretty much an understatement. The series is an absolute record-breaker. In the first 28 days after it originally premiered, the miniseries was watched by 62 million households. Netflix revealed this via their Twitter account. In 92 countries, the series ended up in Netflix's top 10. In 63 of those countries, the series hit the number one spot.

It was a good decision from Netflix to adapt the book with the same name by Water Tevis into this series. The Queen's Gambit isn't just a hit for Netflix but also for the book. 37 years after it was originally published, the book has appeared in The New York Times Bestseller list. And on top of that; Netflix revealed that 'How to Play Chess' has never been googled this much in the past nine years.

The Queen's Gambit premiered at Netflix on the 23rd of October. The story revolves around the young Beth Harmon (Anya Taylor-Joy, The Miniaturist), who is abandoned and sent to an orphanage in Kentucky. Here she discovers an astonishing talent for chess and she becomes determined to break through conventional boundaries. She joins the competitive chess world, which was dominated by men.
