After graduating from high school, the young musicians set out to pursue fame and success in Wilmington, North Carolina. They experience summer romance, party hard, and pursue their dreams. Lilah Pate, who plays Sophia Kinney, says in the trailer: "When you see them on stage, I love passion like that."
The band The Runarounds formed in 2021 when Jonas Pate put out a casting call for musicians to perform on the Outer Banks. The current band members were chosen from over 5,000 submissions.
They first performed for Pate, landed a role in season three of Netflix's YA series Outer Banks, and then began work on the project that eventually became The Runarounds. In 2022, they filmed the pilot with Pate, released an EP, and toured.
According to the producers' official synopsis, the story follows one unforgettable summer as the youngsters give it their all for their big break—with crushes, struggles, and close friendships that feel like family.
With original music, romantic entanglements, and the raw ups and downs of coming of age, The Runarounds captures the thrill of risking it all on the cusp of adulthood to pursue your dreams.
