The Split - Season 3

The ending of The Split is drama in all caps.
The consequences of a divorce have been approached in different ways in three seasons. That's not surprising, considering one of the places where the series takes place is a law firm that deals in divorces. It gives The Split a nice basis to tell the story of a family that has to deal with love, hope, separation and sadness.

The first two seasons were already good, but this third and last season is the icing on the cake. The divorce between Hannah (Nicola Walker, Unforgotten) and Nathan (Stephen Mangan, Green Wing) continues to take shape. This goes with trial and error. After so many years together, it is inevitable that the feeling between the two has not completely disappeared. That sometimes becomes painfully obvious. Their children feel that they have to make a choice as long as the pain prevails between both parents. When Nathan returns with unexpected news, his and Hannah's relationship becomes even more complex. It doesn't help when Christie (Barry Atsma, The Serpent Queen) comes back into the picture either.

The Split knows how to paint a beautiful but painful picture of what divorce does to someone.

Nina (Annabel Scholey, Medici: Masters of Florence) struggles with motherhood. When she meets a new love, it seems to bring more problems than she might have imagined. Not only privately, but certainly also at work. Rose (Fiona Button, Grantchester), Hannah and Nina's other sister, has doubts about adopting a child. Her partner is very eager. That creates mutual tension. When something unimaginably intense happens, the question is if Rose knows how to deal with it. Finally, their mother Ruth (Deborah Findley, The Drowning) is trapped in her own web. Her fear of commitment and her irrepressible ambition at work cause her and her environment to suffer.

The Split knows how to paint a beautiful but painful picture of what divorce does to someone. The uncertainty, the pain, the intense feelings and the search for how to deal with this. It all comes together this third season. The Split is already known for its good acting and great storylines, but this last season seems to be just a little bit better. That's because of the emotional message and the fact that it all feels so 'normal' what happens. Of course, there is the necessary drama and some things are (sometimes unnecessarily) exaggerated. However, the conclusion is that this season is a beautiful ode to everything this series stands for. What exactly that ode is, you just have to experience yourself by immersing yourself in the world of this series for three seasons.

Beautifully detailed. Season 3 in particular provided the tools that allowed the formidable crew to pull off a great performance, and with a lot of empathy.
