Premiere date for MGM+ historical drama series The Winter King

The Winter King has its premiere date. The historical fiction series, based on The Warlord Chronicles books by Bernard Cornwell, takes viewers back to the fifth century and the time of King Arthur. Iain De Caestecker (Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Eddie Marsan (The Power), Ellie James (I May Destroy You), Nathaniel Martello-White (Small Axe), Stuart Campbell (SAS: Rogue Heroes), Daniel Ings (The English Game ), Valene Kane (The Fall), Jordan Alexandra (Mammals), Simon Merrel (Good Omens), Steven Elder (A Spy Among Friends), Andrew Gower (Carnival Row), Aneirin Hughes (Keeping Faith), Emily John, Tatjana Nardone (Diavoli), Ken Nwosu (The Letter for the King) and Billy Postlethwaite (Silo) play the leading roles in the British drama.

Ten episodes were produced.



MGM+ revealed the following about the upcoming series in the press release below:

"The Winter King premieres August 20, 2023 - only on MGM+.

Based on Bernard Cornwell's Warlord Chronicles series, The Winter King is set in the fifth century, long before Britain was united, in a brutal land of warring factions and tribes, where lives were often fleeting.

The series follows Arthur Pendragon as he evolves from an outcast to a legendary warrior and leader. The series stars Iain De Caestecker as Arthur Pendragon, alongside Eddie Marsan as High King Uther, Ellie James as Nimue, Nathaniel Martello-White as Merlin, Stuart Campbell as Derfel, Daniel Ings as Owain, Valene Kane as Morgan, Jordan Alexandra as Guinevere and Simon Merrells as Gundleus."
