The sheriff of Hazzard is no more. James Best, the actor who became known as Rosco P. Coltrane from the ‘Dukes of Hazzard’, died last Monday in a hospice in North Carolina after a short illness. According to reports, he died from the complications of pneumonia.
Best was the sheriff of Hazzard from 1979 to 1985 who always tried to arrest the brothers Luke and Bo Duke in the General Lee, but always failed in his attempts.

Best's career began as early as 1950 and his last role was in 2013 in the movie ‘The Sweeter Side of Life’. He also had roles in ‘How the West Was Won’, ‘Gunsmoke’, ‘Bonanza’, ‘Perry Mason’, ‘Rawhide’ and ‘The Twilight Zone’.
Best is survived by his wife, a son, two daughters and three grandchildren. James Best was 88 years old.
