As reported last month, the latest season in the True Detective crime anthology franchise, originally scheduled for release in 2023, had been pushed back to early next year.

In an appearance at the Code Conference today, Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, confirmed that the delay was due to the strikes. (The WGA one ended this morning, the SAG-AFTRA one is ongoing, with hopes it too would come to an end soon.)
“We put it in January because I wanted to make sure that we had Issa [Lopez] and Jodie Foster available to talk about it,” Bloys said. True Detective: Night Country can be seen from Sunday, January 14, 2024.
Here’s the official logline for the new iteration: When the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the eight men who operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace. To solve the case, Detectives Liz Danvers (Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Reis) will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves, and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.
The cast also includes Finn Bennett (Liar), Fiona Shaw (Killing Eve), Christopher Eccleston (The Leftovers), Isabella Star LaBlanc (Long Slow Exhale) and John Hawkes (Deadwood). Guest stars include Anna Lambe (Trickster (2020)), Aka Niviâna (Borgen), June Thiele, Diane Benson and Joel D. Montgrand (Altered Carbon).
Foster also serves as executive producer alongside Mari Jo Winkler, Barry Jenkins, Adele Romanski and Mark Ceryak for PASTEL and Chris Mundy, Alan Page Arriaga, Steve Golin, Richard Brown, Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Cary Joji Fukunaga and Nic Pizzolatto. Producers are Princess Daazhraii Johnson, Cathy Tagnak Rexford and Sam Breckman.
