In Utopia (2020) there is a real conspiracy

From the best-selling author and screenplay writer of Sharp Objects comes an eight-episode long crazy - and ironic - thriller about saving the world. Amazon Prime Video has released a trailer for a new Amazon Original series called Utopia (2020). The series of the best-selling author and screenplay writer Gillian Flynn (Sharp Objects, photo) will release in more than 200 countries later this year. The teaser was first revealed at the Comic-Conx-on:Home Panel of the series. The eight-part series is inspired on the British series with the same name. The series revolves around rescuing the world, while at the same time trying to find your own place in that very world.



Utopia (2020) focuses on a group of comic lovers who meet each other online and are connected by their obsession for a fictional comic called Utopia. Ian (Dan Byrd, Cougar Town), Becky (Ashleigh LaThrop, The Kominsky Method), Samantha (Jessica Rothe, Mary + Jane), Wilson (Desmin Borges, You're the Worst) and Grant (Javon "Wanna" Walton, Euphoria) stumble upon strange hidden meanings in the pages of Utopia, which predict a human extinction. They realise that this isn't just a conspiracy, but an actual danger that is currently manifesting. The adventure results in a face-to-face meeting with the famous character from the comic, Jessica Hyde (Sasha Lane, Amazing Stories (2020)). Jessica joins the group on their quest to save the world and at the same time, she tries to hide her own secrets. Other stars from the series are John Cusack as Dr Kevin Christie, Rainn Wilson as Dr Michael Stearns, Farrah Mackenzie as Alice, Christopher Denham as Arby and Cory Michael Smith as Thomas Christie.

Next to Gillian Flynn there are more executive producers, including Jessica Rhoades. She and Flynn worked together on Sharp Objects. Other executive producers are Sharon Hall, Karen Wilson and Dennis Kelly. The series is a co-production between Endemol Shine North America, Kudos, Endemol Shine Group UK production studio and Amazon Studios. Sharon Levy, President, Unscripted & Scripted Television, Endemol Shine North America will keep track of production progress for Endemol Shine. Utopia will release in more than 200 countries, exclusively on Prime. When exactly? That is currently unknown.
