Wakker in Paraguay is an Dutch documentary which is aired on VPRO. The series premiered on January 8th, 2026.
Bureaucratic regulations, high taxes, 5G, the Deep State: since the coronavirus pandemic, the number of people harboring a deep distrust of the Dutch government has been growing. The five-part documentary series "Awake in Paraguay - Dutch Fleeing to a Faraway Land" follows a group of Dutch people for a year who are convinced that things are going terribly wrong in our country. They seek refuge in the distant and unfamiliar Paraguay that promises them many freedoms. How will they shape a new future?
