The first season was written and produced by co-showrunners Julie Plec (The Vampire Diaries, Legacies) and Carina Adly MacKenzie (Roswell, New Mexico, The Originals), with Emily Cummins, Brett Matthews, Pascal Verschooris, and E. Lockhart as executive producers.
According to Lockhart and the creators, there are still many secrets on Beechwood Island in season two, and fans will see what they've always wanted, plus new surprises. Universal Television president Erin Underhill praised the renewal as a recognition of the talent of the creators and cast, and highlighted the collaboration with Amazon MGM.
