©Deadline - Marvel TelevisionThe series is created by Destin Daniel Cretton, known for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, along with Andrew Guest, who previously worked on Community (NBC) and Marvel's Hawkeye (Disney+).
Wonder Man follows the ambitious but struggling actor Simon Williams, who is having a hard time making it in Hollywood. His life takes an unexpected turn when he meets Trevor Slattery, played by Oscar winner Ben Kingsley, reprising his role from Iron Man 3 and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
Slattery is an actor whose greatest successes are behind him, but through him, Simon discovers that the legendary director Von Kovak, portrayed by Zlatko Buric, is working on a remake of the superhero film Wonder Man. Two actors at completely different points in their careers are determinedly chasing roles that could change their lives, while the series simultaneously offers a behind-the-scenes look at the entertainment industry.
While Simon desperately tries to break through as the star of this reboot, he secretly also develops real superpowers. In the trailer, he is asked to sign a document by Agent Cleary, played by Arian Moayed, who reprises his role from Spider-Man: No Way Home from 2021.
Soon after, Simon's hidden powers explosively manifest. Cleary is a high-ranking official from the Department of Damage Control, the government agency dealing with the aftermath of super-powered incidents, and he quickly labels Simon as an “extraordinary threat.”
Wonder Man premieres Tuesday, January 27, on Disney+, with all eight episodes being released simultaneously.
