Marvel announces premiere date and releases trailer for X-Men '97

Bring on those glorious '90s costumes! Marvel has announced the premiere date for X-Men '97.
All '90s Marvel fans' dreams come true as one of the best Marvel animated series ever gets a long-awaited continuation in X-Men '97. If the title sounds confusing, that's because the name of the series is a revival of the fan-favorite 1992 series, X-Men: The Animated Series, which ended in 1997.

It's one of the first adaptations of the now wildly popular X-Men comic book characters and it's really what made them pop culture icons before the many film and television adaptations we've gotten since.

X-Men '97

There were of course many Marvel superhero animated series before, such as the Spider-Man series from the 1960s. That said, there's really something to be said for calling X-Men: The Animated Series by far the most influential due to its massive popularity and incredible fidelity to the source material.

Many other film adaptations of Marvel characters appeared in the '90s, such as Spider-Man (1994), which even occasionally overlapped with X-Men: The Animated Series. Almost like a Marvel Cinematic Universe before there was even a Marvel Cinematic Universe. For the first time in over 25 years, we finally see the legendary interpretations of these iconic characters come together again.

After almost thirty years, the X-Men now return on Wednesday, March 20. The series picks up a few years after the end of the original series.

Fans of X-Men: The Animated Series will be happy to hear that almost the entire voice cast of the iconic series is returning to play their equally beloved characters in This includes your favorite X-Men members like Cal Dodd as Wolverine, Chris Potter as Gambit, Adrian Hough as Nightcrawler, Lenore Zann as Rogue, George Buza as Beast, and Alison Sealy-Smith as Storm.

Some of the only cast members not returning are Norm Spencer as Cyclops and David Hemblen as Magneto, as they have both sadly passed away. Both characters have been confirmed to appear in the series. Catherine Disher will not return as Jean Gray and Jennifer Hale will take over the role. Chris Britton will also reprise his role as Mr. Sinister reprises and replaces the reformed Magneto as the main antagonist of the series.
