ZOT! is a comedy series set in the Middle Ages where a jester creates chaos.ZOT! What a name for a television series. The title suggests that we're in for a comedy, and that's exactly what awaits the viewer. With ZOT!, we find ourselves somewhere in the Middle Ages where a jester and his half-sister come to introduce themselves to the ruler of the area, who is currently holding an audience in her castle. Thanks to our jester-in-the-making, things get completely out of hand.
You watch ZOT! just to relax for half an hour, have a good laugh, and enjoy yourself before the real world awaits you again.
What immediately struck me while watching this episode was the strong What If? vibe infused into the comedic elements of the show. Those who look a bit further will also notice that at least part of the production team from What If is co-responsible for ZOT! Add to that a load of actors and actresses who made their appearance in that sketch program years ago, and you can kind of imagine how things work in ZOT!
The story itself is thin and unpredictable, but the performers stand their ground. Someone like Charlotte Timmers or Ruth Beekmans knows the ropes. But comedian Jens Dendoncker is less experienced in series land, yet through his disarming performance, he manages to dispel all doubts and deliver a strong leading role.
You watch ZOT! simply to relax for half an hour, have a bit of a laugh, and enjoy yourself before the real world awaits you again.
