The dystopian thriller Alice in Borderland returns for a third season. Netflix announced the return during the APOS conference in Indonesia and confirmed that Kento Yamazaki and Tao Tsuchiya will return in the roles of Arisu and Usaki. In addition to a return of the well-known actors, Netflix also confirmed that Shinsuke Sato will return to direct season 3.
Thought the second season was a bit less than the first, but still a high level series. I found some episodes a bit long-winded in the second season, but a nice ending.
I just started this. And I can see where Squid Games got its idea from (although the movie Battle Royal was undoubtedly an inspiration as well). And honestly, I like this Japanese series a lot better. I'm two episodes into it now and haven't had a single "fast forward" moment like I had with Squid Games. I'll take a closer look, but I think it's promising.
The third season was also very satisfying. The games are once again delightfully sadistic and complex. It's a good thing there's a good explanation of the gameplay beforehand, because these are definitely not child's play like Squid Games.
For much of the season, Arisu is desperately searching for his Usagi. After they remarry in their normal lives, they end up back in Borderland, but arrive separated. This season also tells us a bit more about what Borderland actually is and how you get there. But ultimately, it's all about the games, which have clearly been well-thought-out.
It seems like the very last season, but that's what we thought last time too, so who knows! I'm all for it, as long as they can keep it just as exciting and intriguing.
I, too, thoroughly enjoyed this season. The final game dragged on, but with the glimpses of their potential future lives, I found it very interesting.
I had a feeling there might be a new season. And I'm not talking about that awful introduction to what appears to be an American spinoff, but about the earthquakes.
I don't know how official it is, but it looks like Netflix quietly canceled the series: https://netflixfans.com/alice-in-borderland-has-been-quietly-canceled-by-netflix/
The ending was OK but I would have liked to see a sequel.
What an adventure. Arisu, Usagi and friends had to fight hard to reach the end. The story of the manga has been told, but I'm hoping for a season 3! After all, we still don't know who's in charge. The ending can also be a nice set-up for a new season, especially with the joker card in the closing seconds of the last episode.
Fantastic second (and final?) season. The games are brilliant again and the world seems even rawer and dirtier than in season 1. Really much better than Squid Games, which has a similar premise. The story ends nicely, although I thought the last games (except the very last one) were a bit rushed. But despite that, a satisfying ending. Whether there will be a third season remains to be seen. A small opening was left at the very end. But I understand that the manga (Japanese comic) on which the series is based has now been completely told.
Hopeful news. There are 2 spin-off manga stories that could possibly lead to a third season. https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2022/12/23/alice-in-borderland-has-two-spin-off-manga-stories-that-could-lead-to-s3/
Season 2 is definitely happening and they are filming now. Expected release is spring 2022 at the earliest.
