Sources say Jamie Hector (pictured), who starred opposite Titus Welliver in the original Bosch series, is in talks to reprise his role in the spin-off series.
The second drama, the untitled Renee Ballard Project, revolves around a character not yet seen in the two Bosch series: Detective Renee Ballard, who is to lead the LAPD's new cold case division. In addition to investigating unsolved crimes, Renee is committed to building credibility for the department and justice in the community. Renee has learned from her retired ally and mentor Harry Bosch and is doing things her own way. She solves cases in unconventional ways as she navigates the politics of a woman on the rise in the LAPD.
The original series was for Prime Video, spinoff Bosch: Legacy is for AVOD sister Freevee; it has not yet been determined which Amazon platform the new series would be for.
While franchise building has been part of the fabric of television for decades, with Dick Wolf being the main driver, Starz's Power took that to the next level with a universe of multiple spin-off series ordered and produced simultaneously. Yellowstone (2018) is probably the most talked about series-wise universe right now, built around the success of the flagship series.
Just yesterday, Showtime announced plans for the Billions and Dexter universes with multiple spin-offs in development.

Bosch: Legacy received an early renewal for a second season before the first episode aired. The Fabel Entertainment series is produced by Connelly, Eric Overmyer, Tom Bernardo, Henrik Bastin, Pieter Jan Brugge and Welliver. Season two will premiere this fall.
Bosch was Amazon's first original drama series, and the channel's longest-running original series at seven seasons. The series, based on Connelly's bestsellers, featured Welliver in the title role.
