Set in the early 1990s in Boston, a city where corruption and racism are the norm in the justice system, Brooklyn native Decourcy Ward, played by Aldis Hodge (Cross), is trying to adjust to this new, harsh reality. He teams up with Jackie Rohr, played by Kevin Bacon (The Following), an FBI veteran with a reputation for being unreliable. Together, they become embroiled in a complex case that forces them to question their own boundaries and beliefs, with major implications for how justice works in the city.
The cast is further strengthened by a number of regular faces, such as Jill Hennessy, Lauren E. Banks, Amanda Clayton, Jonathan Tucker, Mark O’Brien, Kevin Chapman and Matthew Del Negro.
In addition, a number of well-known guest actors appear throughout the seasons, including Sarah Shahi, James Remar, Gloria Reuben and Emma Myles.
The authentic atmosphere of Boston is also completely right, partly thanks to Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, who themselves come from the city and helped set the right tone as producers. They ensured that the series was shot on location and that the story and characters feel real to those who know Boston. They have also co-produced other films, such as Good Will Hunting, Dogma, The Third Wheel, The Last Duel and Air.
Since its release in 2019, the series has been well received by both critics and viewers. Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, among others, rave about how real and immersive it all feels. The series has also received many nominations and awards, including a Screen Actors Guild Award for Kevin Bacon.
From Tuesday 3 June, all three seasons of City on a Hill can be seen exclusively on Streamz. Watch a trailer for City on a Hill below.
